Remove a Sidekick and understand transcript deletion

Remove a Sidekick and understand transcript deletion in Cortex Chat: practical steps, setting explanations, result checks and troubleshooting.

Removing a Sidekick is destructive. The confirmation states that it stops the agent and permanently deletes its transcript; it is not merely hiding the assistant from your sidebar. Read the selected name before confirming.

Before you start

The Sidekick identity, role description, runtime and tool policy describe different things. Name and artwork identify the assistant. Skills and job tell it how to approach work. Sessions determines whether its runtime is available, and saved tool settings determine the operations it can use. An assistant can therefore have a clear job but still be offline or lack a required app permission. Diagnose the specific layer before restarting or replacing it. In particular, removal is not a harmless refresh: the confirmation explains that the transcript is permanently deleted. Preserve the work you need through an appropriate authorised artifact before a destructive action.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Manage Sidekicks and select Remove on the intended assistant.
  2. Read the confirmation and preserve any work you are authorised to retain.
  3. Use Keep Sidekick to cancel, or Remove and delete transcript only when that permanent result is intended.

What the settings mean

Control or stateMeaning
RoleInstructions and specialisation, not automatic credentials.
RuntimeStarting, working, restarting and other current availability signals.
DefaultAn account preference used for an implicit assistant selection.
Tool policySaved allowed operations for the relevant context.

Check the result

The intended assistant is removed after confirmation, with no confusion about preserved versus deleted history.

If it does not work

Do not remove an assistant as a first fix for a connection error. Refresh status and investigate the specific problem before considering a destructive replacement.
